Memory Writeup 2
Memory #2: [Triv Neu] Past: Scientific testing.
A brightly colored egg that splits down the middle, usable 2x [used 0 times]
SCENE: This is headcanon, in that we know it happened but we don't know how. Basically, Lambda was poked and prodded, but it wasn't as invasive as some of the other instances. There's a sense of familiarity and impatience and do not want, but he tolerates it.
Memory #3: [Sig Pos] Past: Smiles and blocks. "He should live as nothing less than human."
A small arrow, usable 5x [used 0 times]
SCENE: Lambda is playing with his blocks, making a structure. Cornell comes in. "Lambda!" Lambda looks up at him. Cornell is familiar and more likable than the other humans. "Playing with your blocks again, are you?" remarks Cornell, kneeling down in front of Lambda. "That's a good boy."
Lambda is still expressionless. He's happy that his talents are being acknowledged. "Are you happy to be praised like that?" Cornell asks. "If so, then you should smile like this." Lambda attempts this.

Cornell laughs. "I know it feels strange at first, but in time, you'll learn how to smile on your own." He pats Lambda's head again, and Lambda is briefly surprised.
At this moment, the elevator door opens, and a woman in a wheelchair comes out, the same woman as in his previous memory. Lambda looks at the new arrival, but she ignores him. "Director Cornell."
"Ah! Hello there Emeraude." Cornell gets up, and Lambda turns his attention back to the blocks. At this point in time, he gives exactly zero shits about Emeraude. He's still listening to what they say, though.
"Sir, I've been thinking, and I believe your methods are mistaken. We're to study Lambda's abilities, not to shape his moral fiber or aesthetics, and that's all we're tasked to do." She looks at Lambda, here, but Lambda refuses to look back. Zero shits given. "I believe proceeding with such a plan will inevitably raise a number of grave ethical concerns."
"Ethical concerns?" Cornell repeats incredulously. "So you consider it unethical for me to teach this child how to laugh? Or even if I show him what it means to cry?" He looks at Lambda as well. Lambda is just sitting there staring at his blocks. He does not like this stupid uncomfortable conversation. He doesn't quite understand everything, but he's pretty sure they're saying things that are untrue.
"Of course it's unethical. The point remains: This body was provided merely as a convenience for our continued research."
"A body may influence a soul, just as a soul can shape a body." Lambda knows how to create bodies. He goes back to his blocks, reaching out to remove blocks from his structure. "Just look at the child. Every day he becomes more and more human. To tell you the truth, I have a great number of things in store for this interesting young boy, Emeraude." Lambda continues to carefully deconstruct his block sculpture. "I think he may well be the first of his kind to transcend the bounds of humanoids and become a new kind of being."
He doesn't think he's humanoid, though? This is confusing.
"He is indeed nothing less than the hope of our future personified." Lambda tries to join two blocks together, but they're too dead to connect.
"Ah…" says Emeraude, dubiously.
"Lambda here has a good many things yet to learn, and I want him to grow up to be a healthy and carefree young boy. Yes. He should live as nothing less than human."
There's affection at that! Lambda likes being valued. He's going to be special. He likes Cornell despite his confusion at some of the earlier statements. He keeps working on his block structure as they watch.
WHAT HE GETS: This is an earlier memory, one of his oldest, so he's still confused by some of the nuances of human language. He doesn't know Emeraude well yet. However, in Aather, Mint does. He understands that Cornell was treating him as a child and as a humanoid, and in retrospect is questioning some of that— Cornell clearly knew what he was, so why was he insisting on treating Lambda differently? However, he recognizes the affection as genuine, especially in light of his previous memory, and his feelings for Cornell are derederedere.
Emeraude on the other hand. Emeraude! Lambda hates Emeraude. FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU. He recognizes in context that this was the beginning of her campaign against him, and he does not like.
At the time, it was a sig pos memory, but in context, it's very bittersweet. He knows Cornell is probably dead. He knows Emeraude tries to kill him. He feels very lonely and unstable. There's no way to change any of this, right? So what's the point?
